Are You Happy?

"Apply love directly to the wound"- Rob McSweeney

Are you happy? If you listen to the daily news, you might get the idea that the world is filled with misery. Actually, most people are happy, based on asking them anyway. Surprisingly, there are more happy, well fed, doing ok folks now than ever before, since measuring these things. And there's less crime and violence and war than ever! And I'll bet there are more people than ever who care about the planet and our future. Yet our success in getting more and more individuals into their own place has brought with it a new kind of separation and loneliness.

If you are unhappy or know someone who is, here's a true story that happened to a friend who has a TV show about love and peace. A woman called him after a show one day and said, "you are up there dressed in white and all full of love. Well I'm all dressed in black and full of hate." Well, my friend knew that when you are dealing with people, it's always either love, or it's a call for love. If it's love, we're good; nothing more needs to be done now. This was obviously a call for love.

So he advised the unhappy woman to go out and find three good deeds to do for others every day for a week, and to call him back at the end of the week. This was not a thing that she was in the habit of doing. But she went out and found some trash to pick up around her trailer park. Then she helped a stray cat... She even talked to and helped an elderly person who lived nearby.

Long story short, she was a transformed woman by the end of that week. By helping others, she broke her self imposed isolation. She was then able to realize that despite whatever traumatic events had led to her dark unhappy separation, giving a little enabled her to feel worthy enough to receive love too.
