All That Has Gone Before Supports Us Now

For ten seconds, close your eyes and picture yourself.....

Ok, now, just note to yourself the details of the picture that your mind formed just now. Particularly, what surrounded you? What was your setting, were you alone, were you connected to others and the world, or maybe sort of floating there?

How are we connected to to others and the larger sphere "out there"?

Think of a moment in your past when you at last received some gift you had longed for. Maybe it was getting to be with someone you love, or some toy you really wanted as a child. You know that joyful, grateful feeling.

When we think about it, all of the gifts we have and use each day come from the past. All these, all that we are, our very being, were gifts from the past. But for all the people who helped us, the accumulations gathered and gifted to us, we would not be here. These gifts come to us from our parents, those who came before culturally, on back through evolution, to light and stardust and beyond. We are time surfing on an infinitely long sequence of gifts.

It is shocking to fully feel how completely helpless we would be without these gifts continually flowing to us unless we realize how connected we have always been to each other, and our larger world and universe. Perhaps the image we have of ourselves floating alone, separate, in a world of other objects and beings is an image we just made up.

(These are just some exercises and thoughts stirred up in me as I have been reading the work of Charles Eisenstein. Some of the best gifts I have received lately have been the insights catalyzed by my discovery of his work. Check him out here )
