Make Time to be Alone

“With the practice of meditation we can develop this ability to more fully love

ourselves and to more consistently love others.”

― Sharon Salzberg, A Heart as Wide as the World

We are far more than we realize. Layers and layers of the onion unfold as we peer more deeply within. But this is a never ending onion.

We are receptive to the feelings and thoughts of those around us even when we do not notice. If we are strong enough in our ability to stay whole and centered in the presence of another, we can benefit everyone. But if not, we are swirled around in the soup of the day of everyone's moods. Especially when we don't notice.

Sometimes we need protection. This is not antisocial, indeed, we can only be of service to another if we keep our own balance. Singing, toning out loud, conscious breathing, even listening to a recording of your own voice boosts immunity and well being. Meditation for any amount of time brings a special quality to the whole day. The point is to recharge in a resonating chamber of one's own vibrations, causing a centering effect, improving one's thinking, and calming the feelings.

"Everything changes when you start to emit your own frequency rather than absorbing the frequencies around you, when you start imprinting your frequency on the universe rather than receiving an imprint from existence."-(?)

In those moments when we need protection, we are like the little tree. We put up a stake and a little fence around it when it is small. But when the little tree is big, it shelters and feeds all the creatures around it. And when we feel strong in our center we radiate love to all and uplift all around us.

"Undisturbed calmness of mind is attained by cultivating friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous, and indifference toward the wicked.”

― Patañjali
